Why new sod fails from watering mistakes
New sod has shallow roots at first. It needs frequent moisture without staying swampy. The goal is root contact: damp soil below the sod layer, no curled edges, and no puddles that invite disease or wash out grading.
Check coverage before blaming the sod
Dry corners and brown seams are often sprinkler coverage problems. Run every zone and look for blocked heads, short spray patterns, low pressure, and runoff.
